The large clear crystal sparklers are called "chatons montees" and date from the late 1940s. The smaller aqua stones are called "roses montees" and were made in West Germany in the early 1950s. Both are made with crystal rhinestones, securely prong-set in silver-plate findings. Although they were originally designed to be sewn onto clothing and accessories, they lend themselves to jewellery design ... as this necklace shows. It's 15-1/2" long and features glowing green-aqua seed beads in addition to a vintage silver plate rhinestone-studded lobsterclaw clasp. The centre drop in the front falls about 2" below the strand. This piece of original loveliness is from SPARKLE PLENTY, of course.
