When howlite (a naturally white stone) is dyed turquoise, the result is remarkably natural, as the matrix in howlite looks quite similar to that of turquoise. In addition, howlite accepts dye readily, and will neither fade nor bleed once the proper fixative has been applied, as it has in the slab beads in this necklace. The three beads provide just the pop of colour necessary to set off the delicious cherry colour of the butterfly pendant and the 10mm disco-cut beads. Once sold as 'cherry quartz,' we now know them to be glass. I've used lovely turquoise seed beads, sterling silver wire and round beads, and sterling silver headpins to complete my design. The tassel on the pendant ends 4" below the strand. The approximately 19" strand closes with a sterling silver butterfly safety clasp.
