The bright and delightful lucite cubes are the stars of this show.
They were moulded in West Germany in the mid-1950s, at a time and place that thermoset plastic making reached its zenith.
Each cube is fuchsia down one quarter and amethyst down the opposite.
The rest of the bead is clear, and takes on whichever colour is behind it as the cube is spun on its axis; great fun!
I've flanked the cubes in the necklace with matching glass beads from China and India, and spaced the larger beads with seed beads from Japan.
The 17-1/2" strand closes with a sterling silver lobster claw.
The matching earrings use the same beads and dangle about 1-3/4" from the tops of their ornate Turkish sterling silver post findings.
Okay, so let's review: the set is fun, colourful, a little bit funky, very pretty, international as all get out, and (looking ahead a bit) incredibly affordable; is it any surprise it's from SPARKLE PLENTY?
